Jane is practicing her English

Thanks to your donation, Jane is attending intensive English classes on Saturdays and Sundays this fall. Jane is 18 years old and in her first year of lower secondary school in Rwanda. She has two brothers and two sisters.

Because the Rwandan schooling system has recently switched to English-based classes, students must catch up in English skills in order to succeed academically. Jane is from the Gashora sector – an impoverished area of Rwanda which was hit hard by the genocide. Few students from Gashora have the opportunity to move on to upper secondary school. English skills are critical in order to succeed on the national exam which determines entrance into upper secondary school.

In her free time, Jane likes to sing. Jane is eagerly practicing her verbal and written language skills, so that she can excel on her exams and in life. This week, she is studying relative pronouns!
